Abstract
The surveillance of multiplexed pulse code telephonic signals is enabled by the inclusion of a test loop between the coder and decoder which detects fault conditions which affect conversation quality. A multiplexed pulse code communication circuit comprises a number of transmission channels (V1-V30) with the corresponding reception channels. These channels are connected to a sampling and multiplexing circuit (10) and demultiplexer (21) respectively. A coder (11) between the multiplexer (10) and external connection (16e) is connected to a memory (37) to a enable reconstitution of the test word which is generated by a word generator (30). The test word is passed into the reception channels through a digital to analogue decoder (20) and the transmitted and receive test words are compared (32) before being passed to a logic alarm circuit (38).
