Abstract
A mixer for liq. animal feeds comprising a tank associated with a water reserve reservoir and a tilting balance (I) is described in the patent parent. (I) supplies weighed quantities of a water-sol., powdered feeding stuff into the mixer. A soup is obtd. which is distributed to the animals, usually pigs, through a distribution system. The introduction of solid prods., such as vaccines, to the water in the reservoir with the object of improving the feed and protecting the animals against various diseases is now provided. The reservoir is filled from the mains by a valve; the outlet dips to the bottom and is connected to a pump. The pump outlet goes to a 3-way valve (II) so that the pump either delivers into the tank or back into the reservoir via an elbow. The pump runs all the time; when not feeding the mixer the by-pass water produces a vortex in the reservoir which ensures a complete soln. of the vaccine. (II) is controlled by a time relay; when the powder has been weighed on the balance the valve is set to feed the mixer with a predetermined quantity of liq. Continuous operation of the pump avoids the rapid deterioration caused by frequent stopping and starting; the by-passed water by its turbulence promotes the soln. of the additives.
