Abstract

Appts. for determining the rate of sedimentation of erythrocytes in blood consists of a piece of transparent flexible tube, made from a plastic material, which can be fitted on to the end of a syringe in place of the needle, and a rigid tube, which can be fitted over the flexible tube and which carries a graduated scale. The rigid tube can be transparent or can have a longitudinal vent so that the flexible tube can be seen. The syringe, transparent flexible tube and rigid tube with graduated scale is carried on a support which can be hung on a wall. The appts. enables cheap and readily available material to be used. The transparent flexible tubing can be stored in coils and cut to the right length when required or stored as cut pieces, and the syringe can be of the type which is discarded after being used once. In addn., the rigid tube which carries the graduated scale and is standardised, can be used repeatedly and does not come into contact with the liq. under test.
