Abstract

A disposable holder comprises two tubes, each sealed at one end, telescopically fitting one into the other at their open ends. One tube contains a long medicinal device, esp. a sterile swab, while the other tube contains a sealed-in liquid. The chamber contg. the liquid is pref. sealed by a seal which can be perforated. The swab is pref. held by friction in the closed end of the first tube. The swab in the upper tube can be used to pick up a specimen e.g. of bacteria; the liquid in the lower tube is a culture medium for the specimen. After picking up a specimen on the swab, the two tubes are relunited; the medium can then be brought into contact with the swab by forcing the swab through the seal, e.g. immediately before placing the entire device in an incubator.
