Abstract

The laser is based on the effect of association of excited and unexcited molecules which in the ground state remain dissociated. The dsign aims to minimise loss effects found in some forms of this type of laser. The basic design is of a contained monatomic gas involving diatomic excited state molecules. Cooling is provided to below thirty five degrees celsius at a gas pressure of between one and three atmospheres in a resonant optical cavity having two mirrors, one of which is partially reflecting. The reduction in temperature at the low pressure is aimed at increasing the population inversion and the process of formation of the laser.
