Abstract

The system, particularly for plywood uses components, inserted between the flat external layers, aligned alternately in different directions so as to form a lattice pattern, typically intersecting at 90 deg., and glued together. The components can be alternately parallel to the panel edges, of different widths and placed at differing intervals, the empty spaces being larger near the middle, and typically accounting for between 15 and 50, preferably 30% of the total space. The components can be parted off continuously from a strip peeled from a log, and then conveyed to a machine placing them in position in the trellis pattern.
