Abstract

In a method of sowing seed in which the seed is dispensed in the form of a suspension in a fluid, the fluid consists of water treated with a physiologically innocuous thickening agent having a viscosity such as to ensure that statistical distribution of the seed brought about by thorough mixing is maintained over a limited period. The thickening agent is pref. one which gives a clear liquid, ammonium and potassium phosphates being partic. pref. The amt. of thickening agent is pref. of the order of 1-5 wt% of the suspension. Since the high viscosity engendered by the thickening agent maintains the uniform distribution of the seed at least for a limited period, continuous mixing of the suspension during application of the seed is rendered unnecessary and the apparatus used for dispensing the suspension can be correspondingly simplified. The amount of thickening agent used can be varied according to the type of seeds to be dispensed.
