Abstract

The valve forms part of the assembly of a shock absorber. The piston rod (1) is secured to a piston (2) which is provided with a valve seat (4). A spring washer (3) fits on a shoulder (5) on the rod (1). When fluid flows from the lower side of the piston it passes through the axial holes (7) and lifts the outer edge of the spring washer (3) off its seat (4); the magnitude of the lift being proportional to the pressure difference across the piston. When the flow is in the opposite direction the inner edge of the washer (3) is depressed and uncovers the holes (9) of constant width which communicate with the axial hole (10).
