Abstract
The tip (1a) of the electrode (1) for contact with the tissues is sanded on the surface, and typically of stainless steel. Where the electrode is encased in a metal sheath, with an intervening layer of insulating material, both the tip and the part of the sheath for contact with the tissue can be sanded on the surface, and both can be of stainless steel, the sheath acting as the other part of the electrode. The impedance of the electrode is typically reduced by about fifty per cent in comparison with a similar smooth surface electrode.
