Abstract

Floor coverings made by cutting a continuous stock sheet into panels, drenching the upper surfaces of the panels at a rate of >=90m/min. with a coating compsn. which is photohardenable, exposing the coating to actinic radiation, and finally cutting the coated panels into required sizes and shapes. Actinic exposure should comprise an initial treatment in an inert gas atmos. by low pressure Hg vapour lamps operating at low power with a predominant output at 2537A degrees or by a plasma arc operating at a 12000A degrees. Subsequent treatment should be in one or more stages in air by Hg lamps with a nominal power of 40 W/cm. Esp. for treating tile made of PVC opt. with asbestos fillers with e.g. acrylic based glazing to confer grease, oil and wear resistance, etc. Radiation pattern allows coatings to be cured at rates at least as fast as stock sheet can be produced, embossed and cut ready for coating.
