Abstract

Pellet for implantation in stock animals being reared for slaughter for food comprising a natural hormone mixed with an ester of the hormone, each component being 10-90% of the total active weight, the two being intimately mixed so that the mass gives a constant compsn. diffusing through the animal. The animal is fattened quickly without fear of meat contg. residues harmful to humans. Weight increases of 5-10% are possible, e.g., an increase of 1.5 kg./day. Hormones derived from diosgenin are used, e.g., oestradiol and its benzoate, testosterone and its propionate progesterone.
