Abstract

The passenger is retained in the seat by a safety belt and a shock absorbing device is fitted to the vehicle. The shock absorber is screwed to the vehicle body as long as the tractive force does not exceed a chosen valve. A cylindrical part is mounted so as to slide longitudinally in guides. This cylinder is notched and held in position by a plunger inclined to the cylinder. The top of the plunger forms the normal anchorage point of the seat belt and the plunger is held in the notch by an elastomer device. When the seat belt pull reaches a give value, the plunger is withdrawn and the shock absorber comes into action.
