Abstract
Water insol. water swellable copolymer is obtd. by bulk polymsn of (A) 60-99.75 pref. 85-97.5% of a monoester of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid and a polyhydric alcohol and (B) 0.25-40, pref. 2.5-15% of glycidyl (meth)acrylate and/or glycidyl crotonate. Pref. (A) is hydroxy ethyl methacrylate. The copolymer hydrogels obtd. are optically clear, elastic, flexible and tear resistant and used in contact lenses.
