Abstract

Thiophene is selectively extd. from mixts. contg. benzene, esp. technical fractions opt. contg. also other hydrocarbons, by using, as extractive solvent, an N-esp. 1-4C alkyl-epsilon-caprolactam (I), pref. N-Me-epsilon-caprolactam (I'), or a mixt. contg. (I), and sepd. by extractive distn. (I) may be used in mixts. with additives, pref. with ethylene glycol and/or diethylene glycol and/or phenylene diamine to adjust dissolving power and selectivity. Thiophene is used for prodn. of dyes, resins, vulcanisation accelerators, anti-oxidants, perfumery prods., specific solvents, growth stimulators, herbicides, defoliants and biologically active materials.
