Abstract

Metal fibre felts for use in filters, heat exchangers, battery, electrodes, sound damping plates and catalyst aggregates are produced by (a) forming one or more first layers on a supporting layer by scattering with a rotary motion, (b) applying a binder to the first layer, (c) scattering one or more second layers on the first layers, (d) repeating these operations until the desired thickness of the felt on the supporting layer is reached, (e) drying the felt, in order to remove the solvent from the binder, and (f) subjecting the felt to heat treatment. Economical prodn of metal fibre felts with a high porosity, high surface, and good strength and resilience.
