Abstract
Lids and casings of watches are made of a sintered carbide material comprising 50-95% (of total wt.) of a hard phase and 5-50% (of total wt.) of a metal binder. The hard phase consists of 90 wt. % carbonitride of metals selected from Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb and Ta at a wt. ratio of nitride to carbide 97:3 to 3:97 of which max. 10 wt. % are carbides of Cr, Mo and W. The binder consists of >=70% of a metal selected from Fe, Co, Ni and max. 30% of >=1 metal selected from Cr, Mo, W. Pref. the hard phase is Ti carbonitirde or more pref. Zr carbonitride.
