Abstract
Continuous title process comprises preforming a controlled amt. of the material into a shape which then goes through >=2 curing cycles at a higher temp. Pref. a layer of impregnated fibres of controlled thickness is automatically prepd. beneath one press which consolidates the material between the end of the preceding pressing and an inclined daylight face which inhibits loss of material back upstream. The materials are cured beneath a second press in a number of treatments which corresponds to the rate of the length of the second press to the first one. The preforms may be damped between the two presses to generate steam at the core of the material during curing, and may be automatically cut to length after curing. Use of repeat curing stage pressings allows output using a relatively cheap slow curing resin system, e.g. phenolic, to be as rapid as a single stage process using a rapid curing material, e.g. urea- or melamine formaldehyde. The head of material fed is readily adjusted to vary the thickness or density of the final product.
