Abstract

Ingot guide appts. for continuous casting installations comprises two parallel ranges of rollers supported by a fixed chassis, the rollers of one range being fixed directly to the chassis and those of the other range being divided into a no. of groups pref. of five rollers, the rollers of each group being carried by independent frames which are connected to the chassis by resilient tie rods, pref. jacks, which tend to urge the rollers of the two ranges together by a distance limited by wedges which allow the required spacing to be maintained, and slides which are connected respectively to the chassis and frames allowing the latter to move perpendicular to the casting axis and which take up stresses perpendicular to the direction of movement. The guide elements for the frames are formed by the bodies of the roller bearings.
