Abstract
Soil conditioning, artificial humus is prepd. from lignites with minimal solubilities of 20% in 2% aq. ammonia, 10% in 1% Na pyrophosphate at pH 9 and 5% in Na pyrophosphate at pH 7, the soluble pactions being precipitatable with Ca ions, and an ash content of 25% of which 15% is insoluble in nitric acid, by grinding the lignite, adjusting the pH to 7.5-8.5 with ammonia and/or Na derivs. and/or Ca derivs. to maximal quantities of 2% NH3, 3.5% Na and 5% CaO, adding 2-6% org. nitrogen, nitrogen from urea or amide, and/or nitrogen phosphates, then adding to the mixt. 0.3-0.5% trace elements essential for growth of microorganisms and seeding the mass with strains of organisms from natural manure, the moisture content of the lignite being kept at 50-60%, then fermenting the mass aerobically at is not >70 degrees C for 20-30 days.
