Abstract
Bandage, which will not stick to the underlying wound and which orientates the scar formation, the growth of connective tissue and the ultimate formation of the outer layer of skin, is made from vegetable parchment. It is a paper cut into strips and composed of pure cellulose and treated with dil. sulphuric acid. The latter purifies the cellulosic fibre, causes it to swell and renders the finished paper stable and impervious to water, oils and greasy prods. As the bandage does not stick to the wound it can be changed without causing any hemorrhage; secondary exudations are also eliminated. The sulphurised paper (b) remains strong in the wet state and its freedom from meshes, present in conventional compresses, avoids the penetration of any proliferations of the proximal tissue (c).
