Abstract
Quantitative separation of Cu by ion exchange from aq. solns. of divalent Fe, Co, Ni and/or Mn is effected by passing an inorganic acid soln. at pH 1.3-2.5 (1.5-1.7) and raised temp. esp. 50-80 degrees C, through several consecutively connected exchange columns packed with complex-forming ion exchange resin contg. aminocarboxylic- or iminodicarboxylic acid gps. esp. in H+, NH+ or an alkali(ne earth) form, and disconnecting and washing out the firstly-connected column, charged only with Cu, when Cu appears in the lastely-connected column. Pref. the process is effected countercurrently w.r.t. resin and metal soln. and before extn. the charged exchange resin is washed out with acidified water. Complete Cu extn. is possible even when passing solns. at high speeds and when using other metals in high excess.
