Abstract

Designed to remove floating oils and hydrocarbons from lake or ocean surfaces, the floating booms are towed by tugs at a convenient angle to each other according to speed and weather conditions. The upper surface of each boom is of a vinyl or similar material which contains floating oils, while the submerged section of each boom allows water to pass through but traps any oil particles. The oil trapped between the booms is passed into the apex angle between them for extraction and passage to a collection vessel.
