Abstract

The device includes an hydraulic ram or electromagnetic relay operated slide movable in a housing, the slide carrying a pivoted element which extends through a slot in the casing and rests on a resilient strip, and on which is provided an inclined needle. When the housing is lowered onto a pile of e.g. knitted or woven panels so that the pivoted element rests on the top panel the slide is actuated so that the pivoted element moves across the top panel and the needle penetrates the panel, whereby to retain it. When the panel has been removed from the pile the slde is moved in reverse direction so that the needle enters a notch in the end of the resilient strip whereby the panel is pushed off the needle. Pref. the needle is adjustably mounted and is so adjusted that it doesn't completely penetrate the top panel.
