Abstract
Foam cored composite panels where the core is made of foam pre-compressed in a direction parallel to the plane of the panel. Pref. the core is made from (co)polymethacrylimide foam compressed and chilled from a thermoelastic state. The anisotropic foam exerts its maximum stiffness normal to the plane of the composite panel to reduce the panel weight/stiffness ratio compared with use of an isotropic foam core.
