Abstract

A sweetened drink, particularly a fruit syrup, is simultaneously sterilised together with its container after filling. Essentially, the container is made of dielectric plastics material, such as PVC, which is filled, unsterilised, with liquid at room temp; the container is sealed and placed in a high frequency electromagnetic field to raise its temp. and sterilise both the liquid and the inside face of the container, without deforming the container. The container may spend three minutes in the field to attain 60 degrees C which will not deform a PVC container. Cooling air jets on the outside of the container allow higher temperatures to be used without container deformation.
