Abstract
Clay-containing salts, particularly rock salt and crude K salts are ground; conditioned with 25 - 200 g/t organic and/or inorganic materials capable of splitting off H+ or metal ions with formation of a negatively charged molecular residue and/or with (in)organic acid anhydrides; heated and dried; set in equilibrium with air of 5 - 30% relative humidity and (s) charged to electrostatic free-fall separator for clay. Separator contains a large surface contact electrode of good conductive material, particularly metal, and a facing counter-electrode of smaller surface, consisting of horizontal metal rollers or rods of 2 - 3 mm. dia. at 5 - 10 cm. distance, and is provided with built-in devices of poor- or non-conductor material shaped like Ventetain blinds or rotating rollers, for returning salt to the charge electrode and pref. all parts are provided with cleaning vibrators or brushes.
