Abstract

The spindle comprises a conventional balanced tubular spindle mounted on a central support, rotatable at speeds in excess of 8,000 r.p.m., and a sleeve on which the yarn package is wound, is slidably located over the spindle. The sleeve may be of cardboard, metal, or plastic, and pref. has a low friction (e.g. PTFE) inner surface. Rotation of the spindle is transmitted to the sleeve by a peg on the sleeve locating in a recess in the lower end of the sleeve. The sleeve is sufficiently light not to set up unbalance in the rotating spindle thereby ensuring a well formed package, and is economic to produce.
