Abstract
Emulsion polymer for modifying the impact resistance of vinyl halide polymers is prepd by (a) forming a first rubber polymer by emulsion polymerising 70-100% wt alkyl acrylate, 0-30% wt vinyl aromatic monomer, and 0.1-10% wt polyfunctional crosslinkable monomer, (b) adding to the stage (a) polymer 70-100% wt vinyl aromatic monomer, 0-30% wt C2-8 alkyl acrylate, and 0.1-10% wt polyfunctional crosslinkable monomer, and emulsion polymerising to form a polymer on and/or in the stage (a) polymer (c) adding to the resulting polymer 80-100 % wt. C1-4 alkyl methacrylate and emulsion polymerising to form a third polymer on or in the polymer from stages (a) and (b), and (d) adding to the resulting polymer 80-100% wt vinyl halide monomer, based on wt of polymer and emulsion polymerising to form a fourth polymer in or on the stage polymer from stages (a), (b) and (c). Gives vinyl halide polymer compsns. with an increased impact resistance and high transparency.
