Abstract

The cooling of continuous cast profiles in the sec. cooling zone is slowed down by the provision of coaxial thermal screens and heaters which act either directly or via the screen on the cast section. Pref. insulation may be given to certain parts of the surface such as e.g., the corners of rectangular profiles. The method prevents thermal cracking of the corners of rectangular profiles and also permits closer control of the solidification process as a whole.
