Abstract
High speed continuous casting machine comprises an intermediate melt vessel between the tundish and the actual casting vessel. The melt is transferred from this intermediate vessel into the casting vessel by a substantially vertical pipe dipping into the melt in the casting vessel and fitted with a flow regulator. The metal is cast into a groove on the circumference of a casting wheel, a belt being pressed against the wheel, thus creating a cavity for the melt. In the prefd. version the valve fitted to the pipe dipping into the casting vessel is controlled by a float. A spring loaded tongue is provided pressing against the inner belt surface to prevent any oxide skin from the melt surface entering the casting cavity. The plant is designed to ensure as little disturbance as possible of the oxide skin on top of the melt, thus ensuring as little of its as possible passing into the casting. It is primarily intended for casting of non ferrous metals, particularly Al.
