Abstract

All stereoisomers of alkyl cyclopentyl ketones (where the alkyl is branched and the cyclopentyl may contain one or several alkyl substituents) and the corresponding alcohols obtained by their reduction are new 3-methylcyclopentyl isopropyl ketones may be produced by isomerisation, in acid medium, of 3,7-dimethyloctan-1-ol-6-one acetate. The cpds. may be used in foods, but esp. in perfumes, having odours similar to those known, but of high intensity and persistence.
