Abstract

Device, comprising a film of a persistently electrochromatic material (e.g. WO3 or MoO3) and a pair of conductive electrodes, is improved in that a layer of a fluid electrolyte, pref. H2SO4, is applied between the film of the electrochromatic material and the counter-electrode, whereby the film can change its transparency or acquire a colouration more rapidly and uniformly than in known devices of this type. Therefore, this invention can be applied to relatively large objects, such as windows of houses, industrial buildings, motor cars, and the like.
