Abstract

As the hot glass fibres emerge from the drawing unit, where they have been passed through with compressed hot gas, they are passed round an extraction unit such as a perforated drum, where the hot gas and/or steam is extracted which cools the fibres at the same time. The cool uncontaminated fibres can then be laid to form a slag wool carpeting or felt for industrial purposes.
