Abstract

Mouthpiece for wind, and esp. brass, instruments consiss of wood at least partly impregnated with polymerisable organic substance. Various liquid unsatd. polymerisable organic cpds. may be used, pref. contg. at least 10wt.% acrylonitrile and 0.01-2wt.% hardener. Cure can be carried out below 140 degrees C or using ionising radiation. Poor thermal conductivity of "polymer wood" and lack of interaction with dental fillings and formation of toxic products make these mouthpieces superior to metal ones. They are durable, have good dimensional stability and excellent processability, so that accurate and reproducible dimensions, can be obtained.
