Abstract
Measuring oxygen activity in liquid metals and alloys Principal patent FR. 1556212 described a solid electrolyte cell in the form of a refractory tube of which the submersible end is closed wtih cement made from solid electrolyte; this closure has proved to be previous to reference gas on the cell side of the closure. The improved closure is formed by using a stopper made of solid, fused electrolyte sealed to the cell wall with a layer of the cement which previously formed the complete closure. Since the cross-sectional area of the cement exposed to reference gas is now greatly reduced, so is the danger of gas passage through the closure.
