Abstract

The delay action layers are interposed between the primary detonating explosive and the ignition layers in tubes machined from brass or aluminium alloy; the burning time depends upon the delay action required. The oxidation reduction mixtures used in delay and short delay action detonators are based on silicon and red lead and/or lead dioxide which burn without releasing gases. To improve the compacting properties and mixture is made into granules by mixing with collodion and passing the paste through a sieve. The extrusions of the paste are dried to remove the solvent, broken up and graded between two sieves with openings of 200 and 400 microns.
