Abstract

Eutectic alloy has good mechanical properties at high temps. and exhibits considerable resistance to creep as well as to dry corrosion at temps. ca 1000 degrees C. The matrix consists of a solid soln. of at least one group VIII metal (4th period). The oriented phase, embedded in the matrix, comprises elongated, monocrystalline particles formed from the carbide of at least one 4th or 5th sub-grp. transition metal. Pref. the latter element is Ta, Ti, or Nb, and the Group VIII metal is Fe, Co, Ni alloyed with Cr.
