Abstract
Preparation of nuclear pure uranium compounds by precipitation of the U as ammonium uranyl carbonate from aqueous solution. Preferably the solutions contain 200-450 g.U/l (as nitrate) which is precipitated with (NH4)2CO3, NH4HCO3 or NH3/CO2 at 40-60 degrees C. The process is a cheap method for purification of U, the resultant powder readily converting to UO2, UF4, UF6 etc. In an example, the before and after figures (ppm) for various impurities was: B 50 (0.21) V 55 (3), Cu 20 (0.3) Cr 60 (3) Th 1000 (52) P 100 (3).
