Abstract

Vinyl chloride homo-polymers and copolymers (with e.g. vinylidene chloride or vinyl acetate) are plasticised by the addition of 8-13C branched alkyl benzoates or di(8-10C branched alkyl) succinates. Specifically capryl benzoate or dicapryl succinate is used. Preferred concentration is 20-30%, based on polymer weight. Plastisols containing these plasticisers are easy to spread. Uses are for coatings (e.g. for wall papers) or films. These have a good surface gloss and are resistant to staining.
