Abstract

The receptivity of polyester fibres to dyes is improved by (1) drawing the amorphous fibres at a temp. above the apparent minimum crystallisation temperature, (2) relaxing the drawn crystalline fibres at a temp. above 180 deg.C., and (3) stabilising the fibres by heating them under tension at a temp. above that used in (2) but below the softening temp., while drawing the fibres by an amount less than the relaxation achieved in step (2). Dyeability is improved with minimum alteration in the physical properties. Economic operation is possible as high speeds can be used.
