Sulphonamides having anti-mitotic and diuretic activity, R1-Ar-SO2-NR-CH2-CH2-X (wherein X is Cl or OH; R is H or -CH2-CH2-X; Ar is a phenyl or naphthyl ring and R1 is Cl, H, acyl, prim or sec amino, or alkyl gp.) Typical cpd. is p-methyl phenyl-di(hydroxy-2-ethyl) sulphonamide. They may be prepared by reacting a sulphochloride R1-Ar-SO2Cl and an ethanolamine such as monoethanol amine or diethanolamine in molar proportions of 1:2.
