Abstract
Micro-organism are bred in a liquid feeding phase in a space comprising vertical compartments producing a number of oblong and vertical zones, connected at top and bottom, part of the zones being supplied at their bottom with air to take the liquid breeding phase upwards, whereas the other part of the zones does not get air so as to make the liquid phase flow downwards. At least part of these vertical partition-walls are hollow to allow a cooling agent to flow through, whilst the ratio of total area of the hollow compartments and the total area of the oblong and the vertical zones adjacent to them is between 0.1 and 10 m2 per m3.
