Abstract

Telecommunication system and method for connecting data communication, which system comprises a telephone exchange LE, a subscriber network element AN, which is linked with the telephone exchange via a standard V5 interface, an adaptation unit IWU which is linked to the telephone network for matching the data link between the telephone network and the data network, and terminal equipment NT which is linked to the subscriber network element. The data link is created between the terminal equipment and the adaptation unit. According to the invention a direct data link is set up from the subscriber network element AN to the adaptation unit IWU by the use of the subscriber network element's local connection fields. <IMAGE>
