Abstract
In a digital echo canceller (EK) with residual-echo limiter (NLP), a threshold (Sa) is derived from the signal on the receiving path (EW), with which the level (PSWA) at the input of the residual-echo limiter (NLP) is compared. If the level (PSWA) is lower than the threshold (Sa), the path of the residual-echo limiter (NLP) is blocked. If not, it is opened. Since this threshold (Sa) is only derived for the echo passing via the adjacent hybrid, the residual-echo limiter (NLP) cannot respond to other echoes to the same receiving-path signal. Therefore, the rising total echo attenuation is measured from the beginning of a call and when a defined value is reached, the arrangement switches to a different threshold (Se) which is obtained by subtraction of the canceller attenuation (ACANC) from an artificial echo level (Py) which is derived from the digital filter (AFI) and a logarithmating unit (LG2). <IMAGE>
