Abstract
The invention relates to a process for smelting material in a smelting furnace, in particular in a suspension smelting furnace which comprises means for supplying the material which is to be smelted, fuel which is required for smelting, a slag-former and material which is, where appropriate, recirculated from the smelting to the furnace, and means for removing smelt phases which have been formed in the furnace and removing the exhaust gases from the furnace. According to the invention, at least 20% of the external heat content of the smelt material is generated by using an at least partially solid waste compound as fuel in the smelting furnace.
