Abstract
Method and arrangement for guiding a fibre web 9 in the drying section of a paper machine. According to the method the air flow produced by the drying wire 9 is led to a channel located in a pocket between two rolls 1, 2 and extending over the width of the fibre web, the outlet opening of which pocket is narrower than the inlet opening, and is further conducted to the surface of the succeeding roll 2 in the direction of passage of the web 8, thereby producing an ejector effect and enhancing the output of air from the pocket between the channel and the roll 2 produced by the wire 9. The arrangement comprises a guide 11, located in a channel between two drying rolls 1, 2, for the air flow with a channel 14 having at least the width of the fibre web and with an outlet opening narrower than the inlet opening. The guide 11 is located so that there is only a small gap 15 between its inlet opening and the wire 9 running around the first roll 1 and so that there is a larger gap 16 between the outlet edge of the guide and the wire 9 passing over the surface of the second roll 2. The air flow produced by the wire 9 is led to the inlet opening of the guide 11 and thence to the channel 14, and from the outlet opening of the channel to the surface of the second roll 2. Due to the narrowing of the channel cross section the speed of the air flow increases, thereby enhancing, through the ejector effect, the air flow produced by the wire 9 out of the pocket between the rolls, causing a significant negative pressure in the pocket, such that the web 8 is pressed against the wire 9 on both sides of the pocket.
