Abstract

Method and arrangement for removing water from the paper web W by pressing by means of a hot-pressing stage, in which the wet paper web W is pressed directly against a cylinder surface 10' that is heated to a temperature above 100 degrees Celsius. In the preheating pressing stage, a long pressing time and a low pressing pressure are used, in which the surface layer that lies on the side 10' that heats the paper web W is heated to a temperature above 100 degrees Celsius whereupon the pressing pressure on the paper web W is reduced. After the aforementioned step b the web W is fed into an intense nip pressing stage C1, E in which it is pressed with a peak pressure that is an order of magnitude higher so that steam is blown through paper web W to produce discharge of the water in the spaces between the fibers of web W and more effective drainage. <IMAGE>
