Abstract

A device for the transportation of air by means of so-called electric wind comprises at least one corona electrode K and at least one target electrode M located downstream and at a distance from the corona electrode. The device also comprises a DC voltage source 3 with two connections connected to the corona electrode and the target electrode respectively. The design of the corona electrode and the voltage of the voltage source are such that a corona discharge generating air ions takes place at the corona electrode. The creation of an ion flux which moves in a direction upstream from the corona electrode and thereby counteracts the required direction of the air transportation is prevented by means of effective screening of the corona electrode in such a way that the product of the strength of any ion flux moving upstream and the distance which the ion flux moves is practically zero or at any rate considerably less than the product of the strength of the ion flux and the movement in a direction downstream from the corona electrode. The distance from the corona electrode to that part of the target electrode which receives the predominant part of the ion flux is at least 50 mm and preferably at least 80 mm. <IMAGE>
