Abstract

The materials having atactic properties which are obtained as a waste product in the polymerisation of propylene or the copolymerisation of propylene and ethylene and which are usually unusable or difficult to use are converted into a rubber-like composition by addition of sulphur and metal oxide, preferably zinc oxide, homogenisation and plasticisation of the mixture and subsequent incorporation of an organic or inorganic compound having oxidising properties, such as a peroxide. In this reaction, the double bonds of the polymer or copolymer are broken, so that crosslinking can take place. The end product has rubber-like properties and can be further processed or treated as rubber.
