Abstract

1. A device for spraying a liquid from a container comprising a piston pump whose housing can be fluid-tightly fixedly fitted in an opening in the container and the delivery chamber of which is connected by way of a suction valve and a suction pipe to the part of the space inside the container which in the normal position is the lower part, and has a discharge passage passing axially through the piston and the piston rod, wherein a by-pass passage leads from a part of the space inside the container which in the normal position is the upper part to the suction opening of the suction valve and disposed in the by-pass passage is an auxiliary valve which is actuated by the force of gravity and which closes off the by-pass passage in the normal position of the container and which opens the by-pass passage in the inverted position, characterised in that an axial slot (32) which is opened in the inverted position by virtue of gravitational actuation of the auxiliary valve (5) is provided in the wall of the auxiliary valve chamber (30) as an inlet opening of the by-pass passage (32, 30, 33) leading to the suction opening (24, 24a) that the suction valve housing is formed as a connecting portion (10) on the pump housing (9), and that the by-pass passage (32, 30, 33) and the auxiliary valve (5) are provided in a separate housing (4) in which there is provided an insertion region (25) for the connection portion (10) with the suction valve (11), beside the auxiliary valve (5), such that the by-pass passage region (33) between the auxiliary valve (5) and the suction valve (11) has at most a slight spacing in respect of height relative to the suction opening (24).
